Study Abroad and Pilgrimage in Poland
The purpose of the trip to Poland is to learn about the history and culture of Poland as it pertains to the life and thought of Pope John Paul II, or Karol Wojtyła, as he was known prior to becoming pope.
Karol Wojtyła was born in Wadowice, lived in Kraków, and served as a priest and bishop in Kraków until 1978 when he became Pope. The heart of Polish culture is the Shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa and the Castle at Kraków.
The great suffering of Poland is memorialized at Oświęcim (Auschwitz). Katowice is centrally located to all places in the central southern part of Poland.
